NEW DELHI: The ministry of foreign affairs on Wednesday issued an advisory to citizens to refrain from all non essential travel to Iran amid the ongoing crisis.
"We are closely monitoring the recent escalation in security situation in the region. Indian nationals are advised to avoid all non-essential travel to Iran," the ministry said in a statement.
"Those currently residing in Iran are requested to remain vigilant and stay in contact with the Indian Embassy in Tehran," it added.
This comes after Iran fired a barrage of around 200 missiles at Israel. The attack comes amid a ongoing crisis in the Middle East, threatening to escalate into a full-scale regional war. As the air raid sirens went off across Israel at night, residents rushed into bomb shelters, witnessing the missile trails illuminating the night sky. Despite the scale of the attack, Israel reported only minor damage and few injuries.
Earlier, Israel initiated a ground invasion into southern Lebanon, targeting Hezbollah's military infrastructure in villages near the Israel-Lebanon border.
The IDF said that they have begun crossing the border to target sites that "pose an immediate threat to Israeli communities in northern Israel."
