If the bag gets damaged during the flight, how do you get compensation? Know what are the rules.

There are rules regarding baggage in flight. Small bags which have a low limit. You can carry them with you. And the big bags. You have to give them to be kept in the luggage section. Which you get back after the flight lands.

But many times the bags that are given to be kept in the luggage section. Their maintenance is not done properly. And due to which those bags get damaged. Recently this has happened with Rani Rampal, a member of the Indian hockey team. His bag got damaged in the flight. He took his matter to Air India through social media.

Sometimes bags of common people also get damaged in this way and sometimes the luggage kept inside the bag also gets damaged. And after the flight lands, the airline companies wash their hands off. Is there no rule regarding compensation for passengers in such cases?

So let us tell you that in such cases, airline companies have to compensate the passengers. According to the rules of the Ministry of Civil Aviation of India, if someone's bag gets damaged or lost, then the airline company will have to compensate that passenger up to Rs 20,000.

In case of damage to the bag, there is also a time limit to file a claim for it. Complaint should be filed within 24 hours of landing for domestic flights and within seven days of landing for international flights.

If the airline does not take responsibility for the damage to your luggage and does not compensate you. Then you can contact the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA). And you can complain. When you travel by flight, take a photo of your bag before handing it over to the luggage section. This will help you get compensation easily.
