says there's "always hope for things to change" as she reflects on the last 10 years of her life.

The BBC star, 51, stunned fans this week when she revealed she had recently got married to her "best friend". Opening up about the nuptials in her new book, I Haven’t Been Entirely Honest With You, Miranda provides a candid account of the "joyous" news while also discussing the challenges posed by her ill health.

Revealing she was diagnosed with Lyme Disease, which can spread to humans via a tick bite, the Miranda star said she found it incredibly hard being confined to her home for such a long period.

Speaking on Radio 4, she said: "Unless you’ve had fatigue [like that], you don’t understand what literally not getting off the floor is. I was basically bed-bound - and housebound. There’d be times where I'd look at a glass of water, and think ‘I don’t know how to pick that up'. All anyone wants is to be heard, accepted, loved and seen… and when you’re not - particularly in a medical situation - it’s the worst."

Thankfully, Miranda recovered and went on to wed her husband, who she met during lockdown. Speaking about her nuptials, she said: "Getting married in mid-life is a full injection of joy and fun. It’s the best! He's my best friend, we have the best fun... The fact that I could meet somebody - it's not a rom-com story, but it’s hope, and that's why I think, whatever situation you're in, there's always hope that things really do change."

Miranda teased her man's identity on X with a snap of his hand, saying: "I've got my best friend to do life with and it's wonderful, and I'm also utterly thrilled to be back in telly land and having a book out, so thanks so much for all your support." The comic ended the video high-fiving her husband, which she joked was an "exclusive".

She remained cryptic while discussing her relationship on The One Show this week, but confirmed that "someone put a ring on it!" Miranda happily explained she found "her person" at the age of 49 while battling her chronic illness. She said: "I'm married, I got married at 51 and it's just so lovely! I'd written Gary for onscreen Miranda and it wasn't until I was 49 that I met my person."

Gary, played by Tom Ellis, ends up eloping with onscreen Miranda in the BBC show after endless episodes keeping viewers guessing about the status of their relationship.

Stating she wasn't going to reveal her actual husband's identity, Miranda concluded: "It's a little undercurrent in the book, I'm not going to reveal how we met because that's a little bit of a twist. He's my best friend, we had the best fun and I'm just thrilled to be a young bride at 51."
