An built at a cost of £90 billion is likely to transform Kuwait into a global financial and trade hub. Madinat al-Hareer, or Silk , is an incredible plan project in northern Kuwait.
The new city will be built within Kuwait City and is expected to take 25 years to complete. Once completed, Madinat al-Hareer will be home to a £64 billion skyscraper. According to the plans, the new project will feature Burj Mubarak at its heart, tipped to replace the Burj Khalifa as the world's tallest building.

Burj Mubarak Al-Kabir is designed to reach 1,001 meters (3,284 feet), placing it among the tallest buildings in the world, surpassing iconic skyscrapers like the Burj Khalifa (828m) in Dubai. If completed as planned, it would rival or exceed the height of Saudi Arabia's Jeddah Tower (1,000m).
The tower is likely to house luxury hotels with world-class accommodation, residential apartments for high-end living, and corporate offices for businesses and financial institutions.
Under the plan, around 25,000 square km of land will be allocated to create residential spaces in Madinat al-Hareer.
The city will also encompass five islands in the vicinity: Failaka, Warba, Miskan, Awha, and Boubyan. The last of these will host the port with 24 berths.
A new international airport will be constructed to provide seamless connectivity to the other parts of the world. According to the reports, the massive project is likely to create around 450,000 jobs in sectors like finance, tourism, healthcare, and renewable energy.
Last month, Kuwait signed an agreement with China State Construction and Communications (CSCC) to work on completing the Mubarak Al-Kabeer Port project. Noura Al-Mashaan, Kuwait's minister of public works, said that the aim of the port was to establish a regional transportation and transshipment hub and develop the northern region as an "integrated economic and urban system based on a comprehensive development vision that considers all economic and urban aspects".
She added that the project would help restore Kuwait to its regional commercial and financial role, and would provide "business opportunities, professional development opportunities, and job opportunities for citizens".
