Jaipur: To prevent spectators from breaching security and invading the pitch during the forthcoming IPL match at the SMS Stadium, stringent arrangements would be implemented. The decision was taken following a meeting at the district collector's office Wednesday.
Speaking to TOI, Phool Chand Choudhary, retired disaster management department official and security officer for the IPL match, said there are plans to establish a 'no man zone' segregating the field and the gallery.
"This corridor – encompassing the area between the galleries and the field – would have iron fencing on both sides. Approximately 477 security personnel would be stationed on the front side (field side) of the corridor to prevent spectators from accessing the field," said Choudhary.
During IPL 2025, in two instances spectators managed to breach the field to glimpse their favourite cricketers. On March 26, a spectator crossed the fencing of the Barsapara Cricket Stadium to meet the 'home boy' Riyan Parag, who was captaining the Rajasthan Royals side.
Earlier, during the opening match of IPL 2025 at Kolkata's Eden Gardens, a similar security breach occurred when a spectator managed to circumvent multiple security layers to meet Virat Kohli. The individual was apprehended by Kolkata police and was remanded in police custody for one day.
Rajasthan Royals would meet Royal Challengers Bangalore on April 13 at the SMS Stadium.
During the meeting, officials have designated the compound of the Subodh College, the Amrudo Ka Bagh and the SMS Investment Centre at the Rambagh Circle as vehicular parking zones for spectators.
"During the meeting it was decided to provide complimentary drinking water facilities for spectators. The District Logistics Officer and Food Safety Officers were instructed to monitor the quality of food and refreshments served during the match and ensure hygiene in temporary kitchens," said an official.
An evacuation protocol has also been formulated for spectators in case of emergencies. For security measures, 291 CCTV cameras and a centralised control room have been installed in the Sawai Man Singh Stadium, which accommodates 24,000 spectators. The CCTV cameras would be linked with the Abhay Command Centre of Jaipur police.
