JAISALMER: Border Security Force (BSF) seized 500 gram of heroin worth Rs 2.5 crore after intercepting a drone from Pakistan near the international border in Sriganganagar district Wednesday night. The drone, discovered in a field in Karanpur area, was found with a heroin packet attached.

Upon receiving the alert, BSF personnel from BSF 24 O Forward BOP swiftly secured the area and confiscated the consignment. A joint search operation with local police was immediately launched to trace those involved. "The drone was found approximately 700 metre from our border outpost. Our vigilant troops secured the scene and recovered the narcotics," said BSF Rajasthan Frontier inspector general M.L. Garg.

On Thursday morning, in the presence of police and intelligence officials, the seized heroin was officially measured and confirmed to have originated from Pakistan. "Due to intensified night patrols, smugglers were unable to retrieve the consignment from Pakistan and fled under cover of darkness," added IG Garg.

Despite extensive searches, no suspects have been arrested. Investigations are underway. Pakistan's repeated attempts to smuggle heroin into India via drones have been consistently intercepted by BSF. On March 21, 3kg heroin were seized near Satrana, Bikaner.

IG Garg said, "We remain vigilant, conducting night patrols and special operations to counter cross-border narcotics trafficking."
