The deceased was identified as Dinesh Purohit, 25, from Sayla in Jalore district.
The incident occurred Tuesday evening, when Purohit was aboard a boat with other tourists on Fatehsagar Lake. When the boat reached the middle of the lake, he threw his mobile phone on the boat and jumped into the lake. A civil defence team searched for the body until late Tuesday night but was unsuccessful. Purohit and his family lived in Mumbai for several years, where he ran a handicrafts shop. Police stated that an investigation is underway to determine the reason for the suicide.
