MUMBAI — April 20, 2025: Sunny Deol’s action-packed drama ‘Jaat’ continues its solid run at the box office, earning ₹4.25 crore on its second Friday (Day 9). The film’s total collection now stands at a commendable ₹65.90 crore, as it holds firm despite competition from Akshay Kumar’s newly released courtroom drama ‘Kesari Chapter 2’.

‘Jaat’, directed by Gopichand Malineni, has surprised many with its consistent performance across single screens and mass belts, especially considering it was released amidst a niche historical competitor.

Box Office Journey So Far

Despite facing a dip mid-week, the film picked up slightly on Thursday and maintained steady momentum on Friday:

  • Day 1 (Thursday): ₹9.5 crore

  • Day 2 (Friday): ₹7 crore

  • Day 3 (Saturday): ₹9.75 crore

  • Day 4 (Sunday): ₹14 crore

  • Day 5 (Monday): ₹7.5 crore

  • Day 6 (Tuesday): ₹6 crore

  • Day 7 (Wednesday): ₹3.81 crore

  • Day 8 (Thursday): ₹4.15 crore

  • Day 9 (Friday): ₹4.25 crore

Total: ₹65.90 crore (according to Sacnilk)

The film also benefited from the Ambedkar Jayanti holiday on Monday, boosting weekday collections and helping the film close Week 1 at ₹61.65 crore.

Controversy Fails to Derail Box Office Performance

‘Jaat’ found itself in a controversy on Good Friday due to a scene involving a church, which led to an FIR and backlash. The filmmakers promptly issued an apology and edited out the scene, allowing the film to move past the issue without a significant dent in its financial performance.

Despite the controversy, the film retained its audience base, especially among fans of Sunny Deol’s signature action style and high-voltage drama.

Tough Competition from ‘Kesari Chapter 2’

While Akshay Kumar’s ‘Kesari Chapter 2’ opened strong with ₹7.5 crore on Day 1, ‘Jaat’ continued to draw audiences and posed stiff competition, particularly in regions like Punjab, UP, and mass-market circuits. However, ‘Kesari 2’ is expected to gain momentum over the weekend due to positive word-of-mouth and higher metro multiplex turnout.

This weekend will be crucial for both films as they battle for screens and audience attention across the country.

About the Film

The film stars Sunny Deol, Randeep Hooda, Regina Cassandra, Vineet Kumar Singh, Saiyami Kher, Ramya Krishnan, and Jagapathi Babu. Its gritty storyline, high-energy fight sequences, and emotional drama have contributed to its box office appeal, especially in Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities.
