Mumbai, April 7 — In a nail-biting encounter at Wankhede Stadium, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) broke their 10-year drought on Mumbai’s home turf by defeating Mumbai Indians (MI) by 12 runs in the 20th match of IPL 2025. The turning point came in the final over, when Krunal Pandya delivered a sensational spell that changed the course of the game.

Kohli-Patiadar Duo Powers RCB to 221

Batting first, RCB set a daunting total of 221/5 in their 20 overs, courtesy of superb half-centuries by Virat Kohli (67) and Rajat Patidar (64). Their partnership laid a solid foundation, supported by crucial cameos down the order.

For Mumbai, Hardik Pandya and Trent Boult picked up two wickets each, while Vignesh Puthur added one to his name.

Mumbai’s Fightback Falls Short

Chasing 222, MI began aggressively but early strikes from Yash Dayal and Josh Hazlewood dented their momentum. A counter-attack followed as Hardik Pandya (42) and Tilak Varma (56) stitched together an explosive 89-run stand, bringing Mumbai back into the game.

However, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Hazlewood dismissed the duo at crucial junctures, shifting the balance again in RCB’s favor.

Krunal Pandya’s Last Over Magic

With 19 runs needed off the final over, tension peaked. RCB turned to Krunal Pandya, who was already having a stellar day with the ball. He snapped up three wickets in that decisive over, ensuring Mumbai fell short at 209/9.

Krunal ended with match-winning figures of 4 wickets, sealing one of RCB’s most memorable victories in recent history.
