Despite upgraded hardware and new battery tech, Tecno’s flagship struggles to outperform its predecessor in endurance tests, though charging remains solid.
Tecno Camon 40 Premier: Battery Life DisappointsThe Tecno Camon 40 Premier 5G, equipped with a 5,100mAh Si/C battery and the new Dimensity 8350 chipset, showed underwhelming battery performance during testing. While this model brings a slight 100mAh increase in battery capacity over the Camon 30 Premier and a more efficient N4P fabrication node, it falls behind its predecessor in all battery endurance benchmarks.

-
Active Use Rating: 2 hours less than the Camon 30 Premier
-
Video Playback: Camon 30 Premier lasted 4.5 hours longer
-
Gaming: Older model outlasted the new one by nearly 2 hours
These results are surprising, given the newer Dimensity 8350 SoC with modern CPU cores (A715/A510) and the more efficient LTPO display (6.67″, 144Hz). However, no noticeable efficiency gains were observed.
-
Infinix Note 50 Pro+ (Dimensity 8350, 5,200mAh, 6.78”): Nearly identical results to the Camon 40 Premier, showing the LTPO display had little impact on extending battery life.
-
Oppo Reno13 Pro (Dimensity 8350, 5,800mAh, 6.83”): Outperformed the Tecno phone significantly, with better battery life across all categories.
The Camon 40 Premier ships with a 70W fast charger, a feature increasingly rare in this price range. However, the default “Smart” charging mode limits performance unless manually switched to “Hyper Mode”.
Charging Speed Breakdown:-
Smart Mode: On par with Galaxy A56 (45W) in first 15 minutes
-
By 30 minutes: Pulls ahead of Galaxy A56 and Camon 40 Pro, but still slower than Camon 30 Premier
-
Hyper Mode: Charges to 75% in 30 minutes, compared to 70% in Smart Mode
-
Full Charge Time: Only 2 minutes faster in Hyper Mode — marginal benefit
Despite the slight advantage, Hyper Mode must be manually activated, which most users may overlook.
The Tecno Camon 40 Premier delivers average battery life that fails to capitalize on its upgraded chipset and display. Even with Si/C battery tech and LTPO efficiency, it’s outperformed by both its predecessor and competitors.
On the charging front, the 70W wired charging is reliable and competitive, though not the fastest. The need to manually enable Hyper Mode for best results slightly hampers usability.
