Jammu, April 12, 2025 . National Security News — A brave Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO) of the Indian Army was martyred during an encounter following a Pakistani infiltration attempt near the Keribattal sector of Akhnoor, Jammu late Friday night. The incident occurred under the jurisdiction of Khour Police Station, officials confirmed Saturday morning.

Pakistani Troops Fire at Indian Forward Post

According to military officials, Pakistan Army troops initiated unprovoked firing using small arms on an Indian forward post manned by 09 Punjab Regiment in the Keribattal sector. In response, troops from 09 Punjab and 18 Maratha Light Infantry (MLI) retaliated with precision, triggering a brief but intense exchange of fire.

Infiltration Bid Foiled, But Soldier Succumbs to Injuries

During the exchange, a group of terrorists attempted to infiltrate the Indian side. The Indian Army’s patrolling team came under fire, and in the ensuing gun battle, a JCO sustained critical injuries.

“Despite the best medical efforts, the injured JCO could not be saved. He made the supreme sacrifice in the line of duty,” an Army spokesperson said.

The infiltration attempt was successfully thwarted, and the area has since been cordoned off for further search and sanitization operations.

Tensions Rise Along the LoC in Jammu Sector

This incident marks a fresh escalation in cross-border hostilities along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir, coming amid a series of infiltration bids and ceasefire violations reported in recent weeks.

Security forces have been on high alert, especially ahead of the summer season, which often sees increased infiltration attempts from across the border.

The martyrdom of the JCO has been widely mourned, with tributes pouring in for the fallen soldier’s courage and sacrifice.
