Jaipur/Udaipur/Kota: Heavy rainfall was witnessed in multiple areas across the state Monday, severely disrupting daily life and leaving many stranded in their respective villages in Udaipur, Nagaur, and Jalore districts.
On Monday, a man died when a thatched house collapsed at Padedi village in the Rishabhdev area of Udaipur.
According to police, Dungar Meena was sleeping inside his house when a portion of it collapsed around 5am amidst heavy showers. "Upon hearing the sound of the collapse, family members sleeping in a nearby room rushed over. They found the house collapsed, and Dungar Meena was trapped inside. Later, people removed the debris and took him to the hospital, where he was declared brought dead," an officer said.
Udaipur district collector, Namit Mehta, ordered the closure of schools in Udaipur (Rural) due to heavy rainfall forecast.
While heavy rains lash Udaipur, Rajasthan's Nagaur district received 170 mm rainfall, the highest in the state. Kherwada in Udaipur followed, with 160 mm of rainfall, Sujangarh in Nagaur at 160 mm, Aghor in Nagaur at 110 mm, Jalore and Mount Abu (Sirohi) 120 mm each, and Devgarh (Rajsamand) 100 mm.
Flooding on rail tracks at Sikar railway station affected rail movement. Torrential rainfall also impacted traffic on the Jaipur to Agra road via Sikandara as a result of waterlogging.
School closure orders will remain in place Tuesday in 22 districts across Rajasthan, including Bundi and Jaipur.
The situation in flood-affected areas in Sawai Madhopur and Bundi remained grim, with many people stranded in their homes.
At Jadawata village in Sawai Madhopur, heavy rainfall and soil erosion caused an 80-foot deep crater on the road, cutting off access to several villages and making relief work ardous.
Met office forecat said moderate to heavy showers is likely in Udaipur and Ajmer divisions in the next 24 hours.
