A Texas man has been arrested after allegedly killing and mutilating his father in a disturbing case that has left the local community reeling.
Jaime Adrian Contreras , 39, was taken into custody on Monday following the discovery of the body of his 74-year-old father, Victor Gerardo Contreras , inside their shared home. According to the El Paso police and court documents, Victor’s decomposed body was found after another son went to the house to check on him, having not heard from his father in werks.
He was immediately struck by the overwhelming smell of "rotting flesh" upon arrival and found a blood-soaked sheet on the floor inside. Underneath it was his father’s bloated body, bearing signs of head trauma. Further investigation revealed the victim had a slit throat, numerous stab wounds to his neck, and had been disembowelled.
Police said blood was found spattered throughout the home, suggesting a violent struggle took place, the New York Post reported.
Contreras was later found near Hueco Tanks State Park, driving his father’s Jeep Wrangler. He reportedly had a swollen hand and a deep cut on his finger, which he attributed to "battling." When questioned about the killing, Contreras told officers he was "in heaven" and claimed that aliens had harvested his father’s organs.
According to court documents, the suspect has a history of erratic behaviour. A relative recalled the victim telling her on 5 April that Contreras was "acting crazy again," had threatened him, and had even killed his pets, prompting a call to the police. However, the victim later said the situation had calmed down.
Neighbours also reported seeing Contreras behaving strangely and shouting in the street. In 2023, police were called to the same home after he reportedly claimed his father was an alien and was seen carrying a decapitated rabbit around the neighbourhood.
Contreras is currently being held in El Paso County Jail with bond set at $2 million.
The investigation is ongoing.
