NEW DELHI: US Vice President JD Vance , along with his wife Usha and their three children, visited the Taj Mahal on Wednesday.
After the tour, Vance wrote in the visitor's diary, "The Taj Mahal is amazing. A testament to true love, human ingenuity, and a tribute to the great country of India."
Earlier in the day, the Vance family arrived at Agra airport from Jaipur. Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath received them with flowers.
Yogi later shared on X, "A warm welcome to Hon'ble US Vice President Mr JD Vance and his family to Uttar Pradesh, the sacred heartland of India, renowned for its timeless devotion, vibrant culture, and spiritual legacy."
Accompanied by their children, sons Ewan and Vivek, and daughter Mirabel, the Vance family is on a four-day visit to India. They traveled from the airport to the Taj Mahal by car, with the route specially decorated. Hundreds of schoolchildren lined the streets, waving both the US and Indian flags.
As part of the welcome, colorful rangolis, sand art, and decorations were displayed at key roundabouts along the 12-km route to the Taj Mahal. Large hoardings greeting the family were also put up.
Security was tight for the visit, with US security personnel overseeing the 12-km stretch from the airport to the Taj Mahal since the previous day. The route was designated a zero-traffic zone during the family's convoy movement.
After spending around an hour at the Taj Mahal, the Vance family returned to the airport. Earlier during their trip, the Vances had visited the Akshardham Temple in Delhi on Monday and met Prime Minister Narendra Modi at his residence in the capital.
