An elephant in a Vijayadashami procession went on a rampage on Saturday, killing a shepherd and injuring several others at Bhuili village in Bihar's Saran district . The elephant turned aggressive suddenly and began crushing vehicles, including an e-rickshaw and two cars. In the chaos, it fatally injured a shepherd even as people ran to save their lives.
Two children were sitting atop the elephant with the mahout at the time of the incident. Ekma SHO Uday Kumar said their lives remained in danger for around six hours when the pachyderm was on a rampage.
Mahouts calmed the elephant down late in the night. It was later kept tied to a tree.
The victim was identified as Lubhawan Yadav (40).
