Send Push
MEERUT: An interfaith couple, who lived in the same locality at Syana in Bulandshahr, UP, and knew each other since childhood, were found hanging in their respective homes, within a span of about 14 hours. Police said on Tuesday that the families of the 18-year-old woman, a Muslim, and her 21-year-old lover from the majority community opposed their relationship and their wish to marry. Upset with her family's stand, the woman ended her life around 11:30pm on Sunday.

Next morning, when the man heard about her burial, he was devastated and took the extreme step. His kin found him hanging in his room around 1pm on Monday.

Bulandshahr SP (city), Shankar Prasad, said, "The young couple were found hanging from the ceiling fan in their respective houses. The autopsy of the bodies was thereafter conducted. No suicide note has been recovered so far. We've received complaints from both the families and are investigating the case in detail." SHO Syana, Premchand Sharma, added, "In May, 2024, the couple had eloped, and a case was registered by the woman's kin claiming the 'man had kidnapped their daughter'. The man was arrested as the woman was still a minor at that time. He remained in jail for a month.
