NEW DELHI: An exchange of fire on Thursday morning broken out between security forces and terrorists in the Singhpora area of Chatroo in Kishtwar district, according to the Jammu & Kashmir Police.
The incident comes nearly two weeks after India launched Operation Sindoor , a major counterterror campaign targeting terror bases in Pakistan and PoK.
On May 16, Kashmir Zone IGP, VK Birdi, confirmed that six terrorists were neutralised in two separate counterterror operations carried out in Kelar (Shopian) and Tral.
The joint operations involved the Indian Army , Jammu and Kashmir Police , and the CRPF, specifying the ongoing coordinated efforts to combat militancy in the region.
"In the wake of heightened terror activities in Kashmir Valley, all the security forces deployed here reviewed their strategies. Following this review, there was an intensified focus on operations. On the basis of this intensified focus and coordination, we conducted two successful operations in the last 48 hours during which we had significant achievement. These two operations were conducted in the Kelar in Shopian and Tral areas, which resulted in the neutralisation of a total of six terrorists. We are committed to finish the terror ecosystem in Kashmir Valley," the IGP Kashmir said.
Although hostilities between the two countries de-escalated following a ceasefire agreement on May 10, India has clarified that the operation, initiated on May 7 is “paused, not over,” signalling continued vigilance in its fight against crossborder terrorism.
