NEW DELHI: In a major development in the Baba Siddique murder case , a Mumbai court has sent the main shooter, Shivkumar alias Shiva Gautam, along with four accomplices to police custody until November 19. The suspects were arrested on Sunday in a joint operation by the Mumbai Police and Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force (STF) after Shivkumar attempted to flee to Nepal.

Shivkumar, 20, and four others — Anurag Kashyap, Gyan Prakash Tripathi, Akash Srivastava, and Akhilendra Pratap Singh — were arrested in Bahraich district, Uttar Pradesh . UP STF additional director general Amitabh Yash said the accused had been hiding in Nanpara, near the Nepal border, with plans to escape across.

The case began with the murder of NCP politician and former Maharashtra minister Baba Siddique, 66, who was fatally shot outside his son, MLA Zeeshan Siddique’s, office in Bandra East, Mumbai, on October 12. He was struck by two bullets in the chest and later succumbed to his injuries at Lilavati Hospital.

Mumbai Police reported that jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi ’s younger brother, Anmol Bishnoi, suspected to be based in Canada, allegedly orchestrated the assassination. According to police sources, Shivkumar was promised Rs 10 lakh for the murder, with weapons and logistical support provided by Bishnoi’s associates, Shubham Lonkar and Mohd. Yasin Akhtar.

In statements to police, Shivkumar revealed that he had been working in Pune, where he connected with Bishnoi's network through Lonkar. Shivkumar claimed the assassination involved detailed planning, with multiple reconnaissance trips in the days leading up to October 12. After the killing, Shivkumar fled, discarding his phone and traveling from Mumbai to Pune before making his way toward the Nepal border.

As investigations continue, officials have reported that 18 individuals have been arrested in connection with Siddique’s murder to date.
