KOLHAPUR: Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray, speaking at an election rally in Kolhapur's Radhanagari assembly segment, said that if the Maha Vikas Aghadi formed the state govt again, it would ensure that the prices of five essential food items, including sugar, pulses and grain, are kept under check for five years.
He said the MVA would make education for boys free, provide affordable housing for Marathi people from Maharashtra in Mumbai, set up all-women police stations to curb crime against women and fill up the vacant posts for women in the police force.
He had already announced plans to set up a grand temple of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj in every district of Maharashtra, he said.
Uddhav also countered Mahayuti's "Batenge toh katenge" slogan with a new slogan - "Amhi tutu denar nahi, amhi lutu denar nahi" that translates into "We will not let them break us, we will not let them loot us."
Thackeray was addressing a rally for Shiv Sena (UBT) candidate K P Patil, who is contesting against sitting Shiv Sena MLA Prakash Abitkar. "They have come up with a slogan: 'Batenge to Katenge.' I don't know who they are going to cut. Now I give a new slogan: 'Amhi Tutu Denar Nahi, Amhi Lutu Denar Nahi.' We will never let Maharashtra be cut into pieces and never let Maharashtra be looted. This is our Maharashtra," he said.
Thackeray also said that he would build a temple of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj in Surat. "Let them oppose. We are going to build the grand temple in every district at any cost," he said.
Uddhav pitched the Nov 20 assembly polls as a battle between those who love Maharashtra and the ones who betray it as he spoke of the 2022 split in the party.
Thackeray hit out at his former ally BJP and its partners, saying those helping the national party were "enemies" of Maharashtra.
The former CM accused the BJP of "selling" Maharashtra to Gujarat, where it is in power. Thackeray claimed his govt was toppled in June 2022 because he did not allow the BJP to harm Maharashtra and said not a single industrial project moved out of the state when the MVA was in office under his leadership.
"(The Maharashtra assembly poll) is a fight between those who love the state and the ones who betray it," Thackeray said.
He started his speech with the sentence 'Jamlelya majhya tamam Maharashtra premi bandhavano, matano ani bhaginino' (My Maharashtra-loving brothers, mothers and sisters), seeking to position the electoral battle as a fight between "the ones who love the state and those who work against it."
Referring to petitions filed by his party in the Supreme Court seeking disqualifications of rebel Sena MLAs, Thackeray said he has still not got justice from the top judiciary and hence has come to people's court for justice. "I am not fighting for myself, but for you and Maharashtra," he said.
