22-Year-Old Nabha woman dies in Canada; family seeks govt assistance to bring body back

PATIALA: A 22-year-old woman resident of Palia village has allegedly died due to a brain haemorrhage after undergoing treatment in a hospital in Canada . The deceased, identified as Navdeep Kaur , was undergoing treatment at a hospital in Brampton , according to her father Gurpreet Singh .

The family claimed to have spent Rs 35 lakh approximately on her studies in the past two years for which they had to sell out their entire agricultural land. The family has now sought assistance from the government to bring her body back and that the family may perform the last rites .

While sharing details, Gurpreet Singh said, “On September 7, during a conference call with relatives in India, Navdeep suddenly collapsed, and her roommate called an ambulance . Four days later doctors informed the family over the phone that there was a clot in her brain and that she would need to undergo a surgery. According to the doctors, the surgery was successful, and the critical 72 hours passed, but Navdeep still needed to remain on a ventilator. On the 19th, the doctors informed us about her deteriorating condition and decided to remove her from the ventilator”.

The deceased Navdeep was survived by her parents and a younger sister, a class nine student.

Gurpreet Singh, said that no one else in the family had a passport, so they could only helplessly listen to the situation over the phone.

He shared that his elder daughter Navdeep was brilliant in her studies, and her teachers suggested sending her abroad, considering the local environment. Being less educated himself, Gurpreet sold his 9 bigha of land to fund her two years in Canada. Her college was processing her work permit , but she passed away before it could be completed.
