18-yr-old found dead with acid burns in Bengal, fiance arrested

KRISHNANAGAR : An 18-year-old girl was found dead, partially stripped and with acid burns on her face, at a residential neighbourhood in Krishnanagar in West Bengal 's Nadia Wednesday, reports Ashis Poddar. Locals found the body in the morning behind the Krishnanagar SP office, adjacent to a Durga puja pandal.

The victim's fiance, in his 20s, was arrested after her parents alleged she had "stepped out with him Tuesday to have pizza" before going missing.

An hour before her body was found, a post on the girl's social media account read "no one is responsible for my death".

Krishnanagar SP Amarnath K said, "Prima facie, scene of crime is not where the body was found. Parents have lodged a complaint alleging gang rape and murder . Based on the FIR, one person has been arrested. We are waiting for the post mortem examination report."

According to the victim's family, when the girl did not return, her family called the fiance repeatedly. The girl's mother said: "He did not take the calls initially. When he finally did, he first said she was sleeping. He then hurled abuses at me. We believe he and his friends gang-raped my daughter, murdered her and poured acid on her face so that no one could recognise her."
