WhatsApp recently launched a feature called Lists that allows users to categorise their chats for better organisation and focus. As per the Meta-owned instant messaging platform, Lists builds on the Chat Filters , a feature that allows users to segregate messages as per their liking, however, there’s a difference between the two.
How Chat Lists and Chat Filters differ
WhatsApp says that Custom Lists is an evolved version of Chat Filters. With Lists, users can create custom categories like “Family,” “Work,” or “Friends” and easily filter conversations to find the ones that matter most at any given moment.
This feature aims to reduce clutter and enhance the user experience by providing a more streamlined way to manage conversations.
“You can create and edit your lists easily by tapping the + in the filter bar at the top of your Chats tab, or edit by long-pressing a list. Similar to your ‘favourites’, you can add both groups and one-on-one chats to a list, and any list you create will appear in the filter bar,” WhatsApp said.
“With Lists, you can now filter your chats with custom categories of your choice. Whether that’s a list for family, work or your local neighbourhood, Lists help you focus on the conversations that are most important, when you need them,” it added.
On the other hand, Chat Filters allows users to segregate messages in just three categories: All, Unread, Groups, which can be selected with just a tap. All is the default view of all messages, Unread is for users who want to see which conversations are needed to be caught upon and Groups organises all group chats in one place.
Chat Filters is already available on WhatsApp while Lists has started to roll out to users and will be available to everyone in the coming weeks.
