Namakkal: Two men were arrested late on Monday night for illegal possession of intoxicating drugs, near the Cauvery riverbank in Natha Goundan Pudur, in Namakkal district.
The accused have been identified as M Rahul, 22, and Jeevanandham, 23, both of Pallipalayam. Police seized 220 painkiller pills used by cancer patients, from them. "The pills would be modified and injected to create an intoxicating effect," said T Deepa, inspector, Pallipalayam police station.
They were apprehended after the inspector and her team conducted a check in the area following a tip off. The duo attempted to flee on seeing the police but were apprehended. During questioning it came to light that they had purchased the painkillers online at 35 per tablet and were selling it to youths at 300 per tablet.
Both were presented before the judicial magistrate in the Kumarapalayam sub-court before and lodged at the Tiruchengode sub-jail under judicial custody.
