Coimbatore: Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) has issued a work order to the Coimbatore Corporation for the land plan survey (LPS) for the metro rail project in the city.
Following the order, the corporation has taken up the work of valuing buildings on Sathyamangalam Road for a 1.4km stretch from Textool Bridge to Surya Hospital.
Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) had sanctioned Rs 2 crore to carry out the LPS.
According to a corporation official, the digital survey and utility mapping through Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) have been completed on the stretch.
The utilities include underground drainage pipelines, water supply lines, electricity lines, gas pipelines and other telecommunication cables.
Once the LPS is completed, the cost of shifting the utilities would be calculated and submitted to the CMRL.
The utility mapping is in progress in corridor one for a stretch of 20.4km from Ukkadam bus stand to Neelambur integrated station via Coimbatore International Airport. The mapping work is also going on in corridor two for a stretch of 14.4km from Coimbatore railway junction to Valiyampalayam Pirivu.
When contacted, corporation commissioner M Sivaguru Prabakaran said almost 75% of LPS is completed on Sathyamangalam Road.
The district collector has directed the corporation to complete the building valuation work within two weeks. Based on the findings, the land acquisition process will begin. "Additionally, we have planned to set up an office for the metro rail project and we are awaiting approval from the CMRL. This will also be expedited and established at the earliest," he said.
Following the completion of the survey, a meeting with stakeholders will be conducted to review and proceed further on the metro rail project. Representatives from the highways department, CMRL, and public works department are expected to attend the meeting.
