NEW DELHI: Tata Power on Monday said it has received authorisation from the Maharashtra Electricity Regulatory Commission (MERC) to establish a 100-MW battery energy storage system (BESS) initiative.
The undertaking shall be implemented across 10 strategically positioned locations in Mumbai during the forthcoming two-year period, Tata Power disclosed in an exchange notification.
The BESS, furnished with sophisticated black start capability, shall facilitate rapid restoration of electrical supply to crucial infrastructure, encompassing the metro, healthcare facilities, airport, and data centres, during grid disruptions.
Furthermore, the system shall enhance reactive power administration, augmenting peak demand efficacy and bolstering the metropolitan electrical infrastructure.
The comprehensive 100 MW system shall be deployed across 10 strategically selected sites, particularly near load centres throughout Mumbai distribution, with centralised supervision and regulation from Tata Power's Power System Control Centre (PSCC).
"Future plans include the integration of BESS into the Distributed Energy Resource Management System (DERMS) to enhance operational efficiency," Tata Power said.
Tata Power is a leading integrated power company with a diversified energy portfolio of 15.6 GW.
