Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) made some surprising calls during the IPL retentions and let go of their IPL-winning captain Shreyas Iyer. The franchise also did not retain Australia pacer Mitchell Starc, who they bought for a whopping 24.75 crores in the IPL 2024 auction, making him the most expensive player in the IPL history. The franchise decided to retain Rinku Singh, Sunil Narine, Andre Russell, Varun Chakravarthy, Harshit Rana, and Ramandeep Singh.Mitchell Starc reacted to the KKR snub ahead of IPL 2025 and expressed disappointment with the franchise for not keeping him in the loop. "I still haven’t heard from them," Starc revealed to The Daily Telegraph. "It is what it is, that’s franchise cricket, so all barring the Hyderabad boys (Pat Cummins and Travis Head) will be in the auction."Starc didn't have the best IPL last year but he did help KKR win the title, delivering a Man of the Match performance where he picked two wickets for 14 runs. Overall, he took 17 wickets in 13 matches for the franchise. Starc made a return to IPL 2024 after a long gap of nine years, having last played the T20 extravaganza in 2015. He decided to stay away from the lucrative tournament to keep him fit and available for international cricket. Meanwhile, Starc wasn't the only Australian cricketer not retained by the franchises. David Warner, Glenn Maxwell, Mitch Marsh, and several other Aussies will head to the auction pool after not being retained. Travis Head and Pat Cummins were the only two Australian cricketers retained by Sunrisers Hyderabad. List of Australians Released from IPL Contracts for 2025:
