Former Indian cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar has said that while Rohit Sharma isn't reckless in his batting approach, he is not able to trust his defence anymore and hence is trying to go for the big shots. Rohit has not been in the best of forms as India succumbed to a humiliating 0-3 whitewash at home against New Zealand. Dissecting Rohit's technique, Manjrekar refrained from calling his approach reckless saying that he has his way of scoring runs. Rohit looked to go from the first ball itself and it didn't reap much rewards this series, as he finished with just 91 runs from three matches. "I will never say that he is reckless because he is finding his way to ensure that he gets runs, to get the team to win. He doesn't trust his defence anymore, you could see that, there was an lbw appeal and that must have just made him feel unsettled ever more," Manjrekar said while speaking on ESPNCricinfo. "But the shot that he played to get out was where he was trying to hit the ball into the stands rather than just make the connection. He is missing a few of his big hits. There was one in the first Test as well, where he stepped out and tried to hit the ball out of the ground, so he is mis-hitting a lot of his attacking shots," Manjrekar added. Rohit has scored 588 runs this year in 11 Tests with two hundreds to his name. Both of his hundreds had come against England earlier this year but in the next 10 innings, he has just one half-century to show. India next take on Australia in a crucial five-Test series starting later this month and Rohit will be crucial to his team's chances of winning the series.
