UIDAI Partners with ISI for Aadhaar Security Boost

UIDAIand Indian Statistical Institute (ISI) have signed a five-year umbrella agreement to enhance Aadhaar’s robustness, security, and reliability through data-driven innovations in fraud detection, biometric tools, and advanced analytics.

The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has signed a significant five-year umbrella agreement with the Indian Statistical Institute (ISI) to collaborate on research and development, focusing on strengthening Aadhaar’s robustness, security, and reliability through advanced, data-driven innovations.

Signed on August 12, 2025, the agreement covers multiple critical areas, including fraud and anomaly detection, development of biometric liveness detection tools, identification of high-risk enrolment or update categories, and improvements to biometric matching algorithms. Other priority projects will be taken up as mutually agreed by both parties.

Ms. Tanusree Deb Barma, Deputy Director General (Technology Centre) at UIDAI, and Prof. B. S. Daya Sagar, Head of ISI Bengaluru, signed the agreement in the presence of UIDAI CEO Sh. Bhuvnesh Kumar and Ms. Puja Singh Mandol, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI).

“This partnership with ISI marks a significant step toward developing advanced, secure, and citizen-focused innovations,” said Kumar, CEO UIDAI. Ms. Mandol agreed, describing it as a convergence of expertise in statistics, technology, and data-driven innovation.

The Indian Statistical Institute, a premier academic and research institution under MoSPI, is renowned for its contributions in statistics, mathematics, computer science, and data science. With a strong track record in high-impact research, ISI’s collaboration with UIDAI is expected to strengthen Aadhaar’s operational integrity and trustworthiness for over a billion residents.
