The Western miniseries Texas Rising follows the captivating story of how the Texas Rangers were created. The show, which consists of five episodes, delves into the Texas Revolution against Mexico and how the Rangers were formed.Unlike other series or films which focus on the Texas Revolution, this show focuses on General Sam Houston and the Texan Army as Santa Anna marches to finish off the Texans.
Four-time Golden Globe Award and Primetime Emmy Award nominee Bill Paxton portrays General Houston in the series. The actor, who has also starred in Titanic, Apollo 13, Aliens, and Predator 2, sadly died in 2017 at the age of 61 from a stroke. Other high-profile cast members include Jeffrey Dean Morgan, of The Walking Dead, Back to the Future star Crispin Glover, and The Mummy's Brendan Fraser.
The battles shown include the Battle of San Jacinto and the Goliad Massacre, which saw around 450 Texan prisoners of war executed by the Mexican Army on March 27, 1836.
Texas Rising is now available to stream on AppleTV and Prime Video, and fans have been sharing their thoughts on the show's "stand-out performances".
One fan of the series wrote, "For me, this was an absolute gem to find during my self-isolation. First off, being a Floridian whose heart belongs to Texas, this was right up my alley.
"This is a loosely historically based miniseries about the Texas Revolution against Mexico. Some unbelievably stand-out performances by so many big and no-name actors-it was unbelievable."
Another added: "Sensational! It's a must-watch for anyone who wants to hear a true tale of how a band of settlers took on the tyrant Santa Anna and won!"
A third wrote: "Great series. I watched it twice and will watch it again." Meanwhile, a fourth simply said: "Well put together. Acting is exceptional. Gripping."
AppleTV and Prime Video are both streaming the series.
