booted the post in frustration after a greedy moment from during Manchester United's incredible comeback win over Lyon. The Dane put in one of his best individual performances since signing for the club, but he couldn't get the goal his showing deserved, despite being well-positioned when Garnacho burst forward just before the hour mark.

Hojlund was sharp and unselfish during the second leg of Thursday's quarter-final. He consistently brought others into play, made few mistakes, and created big chances for Bruno Fernandes and Garnacho in the Old Trafford showdown. The favour wasn't returned, however, when the equally impressive Garnacho made his way into the box in the 58th minute.

Although the cross appeared to be on, Garnacho went for goal himself and missed the target. Hojlund was raging as he lost his temper and kicked out at the post with the bottom of his boot.

United legend Rio Ferdinand, who was on co-commentary duties for TNT Sports, sympathised with the Dane. "I don't mind that," he said. "You need to tell people when you're not getting what you want. He needs service."

Hojlund and Garnacho were both absent from the scoresheet in what turned out to be one of the games of the season. Manuel Ugarte and Diogo Dalot had fired United two goals ahead, and a spot in the semis was no less than they deserved after putting on one of their best performances since 's appointment during the first 70 minutes of the game.

But Lyon pulled two back to force extra-time, which they tackled with 10 men following Corentin Tolisso's late red card. Despite their numerical disadvantage, the Ligue 1 side put daylight between themselves and the Red Devils, with Rayan Cherki firing into the bottom corner and Alexandre Lacazette converting from the spot.

That in itself was already a remarkable story, but the crescendo was yet to come as Fernandes, Kobbie Mainoo and Harry Maguire netted three times in seven minutes to secure the victory in unlikely fashion.

Hojlund was one of the players to mob Maguire after his decisive header set up an enticing Europa League semi-final against Athletic Club next month. Amorim is desperate to finish the season with a strong European run, having failed to turn United's Premier League fortunes around as they splutter towards a bottom-half finish.
