After quitting royal duties in 2020 and eventually relocating with his family to Montecito, California, Prince Harry published his tell-all memoir Spare in January 2023. While he was promoting his bombshell book, Harry was asked if he would ever return to royal duties with Meghan.
Harry sat down with Good Morning America's host, Michael Strahan and gave an abrupt response. He said: "No, I don't think it is ever going to be possible." Prince Harry continued: "Even if there is an agreement or an arrangement between me and my family, there is that third party that is going to do everything they can to make sure that isn't possible. Not stopping us going back, but making it unsurvivable."
The youngest child of King Charles and his wife Meghan have lashed out on a number of other occasions against his family, beginning with their Oprah Winfrey interview in 2021, followed by the Netflix 2022 docuseries Harry and Meghan.
In his book, Harry describes several interactions between Meghan Markle and Princess Kate, which resulted in further tensions between the two brothers. Harry also leveled a barrage of accusations against William, Charles, and his stepmother,Queen Camilla.
As reported in the Mirror, Ingrid Seward, editor-in-chief of Majesty Magazine, said: "Harry's decision to drag Kate into this narrative was both unnecessary and hurtful. She's always been the epitome of grace under pressure, and this incident paints a distorted picture of who she really is."
Royal expert Katie Nicholl said: "I do know that William was very angry that Harry had drawn Kate into it when he felt Kate was blameless throughout. She acted very much as the peacekeeper, she tried to get the brothers back on an even keel, and for Kate to be dragged into this mucky saga was upsetting for her and certainly did infuriate William."
The Duke of Sussex returned to the capital earlier this month to attend the WellChild Awards, and although a meeting between Harry and the King had not been confirmed prior to his arrival, they did meet for the first time in almost two years.
According to Palace sources, Harry and Charles met for a "private tea" at Clarence House, the residence of King Charles.
Harry and his father, until last month had not seen each other face-to-face since February 2024, when the Duke made a transatlantic dash to the UK following the King's cancer diagnosis.
Prince Harry has previously expressed his hopes of reconciliation with his family.
