Several people have shared the same secret for making their mac and cheese taste instantly better. Mac and cheese is an American dish that has become popular in the UK over the last number of decades. What is not to love about it? Bite-sized pieces of pasta and a gooey, cheesy mixture with breadcrumbs on top is a heavenly creation, especially when you include a few spices and seasonings to really give it an extra edge.

But how can you elevate your mac and cheese to truly take it to the next level? We are coming into the time of year when people have guests over for dinner as the evenings get darker and we stay inside our homes. Mac and cheese is an easy recipe that can reallyresult in a show-stopping dish for anyone you have over. Around Christmas time, when we have parties with family and friends throughout the season, it is a go-to dish to make for many. Several people have shared the clever hack they use to make their mac and cheese instantly tastier.

What is the secret to a tastier mac and cheese? It's pretty simple, actually. The extra ingredient you need is eggs. Recipe expert Coco Morano shared how she uses eggs, specifically egg yolks, to make her mac and cheese richer.

Sharing the hack on Simply Recipes, she revealed that she whisks in the egg yolk with the milk and powdered cheese she uses, helping it to become creamier without the need for butter. "But when I make the sauce with egg yolk and butter, that's when the real magic happens," she said.

"What results is a glossy, silky cheese sauce that coats the back of a spoon, AKA boxed mac and cheese perfection." Other seemed to have caught onto this trick.

In one Reddit thread, a person said that they use eggs to get that "set, Southern-style baked macaroni and cheese". They revealed: "Gimme that soul food version any day! If done properly, it's not grainy at all."

Another said: "I really like the custardy consistency myself. Also, you should be tempering the egg to keep it from scrambling."

However, if you are not a fan of the idea of eggs in your mac and cheese, then there are other things you can use. For example, you can use heavy cream, sour cream or Greek yoghurt to get a creamier texture.
