Kirstie Allsopp questions how Keir Starmer valued £18m London flat at £3.3k per week

Sir Keir Starmer recently admitted accepting a £20,000 contribution towards accommodation for his son while he sat his GCSE exams and Kirstie Allsopp has taken to X to question prime minister's calculations.

The TV presenter branded Sir Keir a "bargain hunter" as she raised questions after the Labour leader admitted to accepting £20,000 from Lord Alli for accommodation for his teenager to study peacefully.

Allsop wrote: "If Keir Starmer can get a short let flat in Covent Garden worth £18,000,000, for £3,300 per week he should definitely be PM, the man is a bargain hunter extraordinaire, maybe he can apply his negotiating skills on the train drivers."

The Prime Minister has so far refused to apologise for accepting freebies because he does not think he is "doing anything wrong". He has also defended his decision to accept hospitality and clothing from donors.

Sir Kier has faced criticism after it emerged he had accepted £20,000 in donations for accommodation because his son needed somewhere to revise for his GCSEs while his family home was surrounded by journalists during the election campaign.

He accepted gifts from Labour peer Lord Alli and said it is a matter of judgment whether MPs receive donations.

He said: "My boy, 16, was in the middle of his GCSEs. I made him a promise, a promise that he would be able to get to his school, do his exams, without being disturbed.

"We have lots of journalists outside our house where we live and I'm not complaining about that, that's fine.

"But if you're a 16-year-old trying to do your GCSEs and it's your one chance in life - I promised him we would move somewhere, get out of the house and go somewhere where he could be peacefully studying.

"Somebody then offered me accommodation where we could do that. I took that up and it was the right thing to do."

The Prime Minister has also been under fire for other freebies he has received which total £83,780. These gifts were largely received while he was the leader of the opposition and include clothing, Taylor Swift tickets and football match tickets.
