With leaves falling and the garden starting to look a little wild, now's the ideal time to give your hedges a final tidy before winter sets in. Autumn is perfect for trimming; plants are slowing their growth, and a quick prune now will help them keep their shape right through to spring.
If your tools have seen better days, the Einhell Power X-Change 18V cordless hedge trimmer could be a good upgrade and it's on sale at Amazon.
There are two versions that come with on sale: one with a 46cm cutting length and another with a 55cm capability. Both are available as the trimmer alone or as a bundle with the battery and charger. The latter choice has the biggest discount, with 28% off both sizes, meaning shoppers can get the 55cm version for £89.99, down from £124.95. Meanwhile, the 46cm option is now £79.67, reduced from £109.95.
Choosing the right length depends on what you want to achieve from your trimmer. A shorter blade will give more control for shaping, while longer blades cover more ground for larger foliage.
The trimmers are part of Einhell's popular Power X-Change range, meaning the battery is interchangeable with other tools from the same system. Shoppers who already own a Einhell drill, strimmer, or lawn mower and have the battery and charger can still get up to 21% off the trimmer only.
Both trimmers are lightweight: the 46cm is 2.3kg and has a run time of 80 minutes, while the 55cm is 2.6kg and has a battery length of 100 minutes, and customers say they are "easy" to handle.
The blades are sharp and sturdy, designed to give a clean, even cut through branches. It has a two-hand safety switch and large hand guard to offer extra protection during use, and there's a wall mount bracket included so you can store it neatly once you're done. Plus, the 55cm version comes with a cuttings collector, which can be seen in the photo above.
The trimmer has a rating of 4.5 stars out of five based on over 12,000 reviews. One customer wrote: "Great trimmer, cuts brilliantly, and is easy to control." While another shopper added: "Being cordless means it's easier to move around where we need to to work and not restricted on cable length, it also means it's quite lightweight. It's a good length blade that certainly had no issues with my bushes."
Of course, as with most cordless tools, some users mention that the blade length can feel limiting for very tall or wide hedges. One person shared: "Very good and efficient at cutting normal hedging and battery very good not as powerful as my old cable trimmer can't cut through the larger branches, still I like its portability and it's very lightweight, so overall very good. I will have to cut the larger branches with a saw or bolt clipper."
