Donald Trump was handed a massive blow live on BBC Breakfast after a summit was held at the White House with Ukraine president Volodymyr Zelensky and other European leaders. Trump also met face-to-face with Russian leader Vladimir Putin in Alaska, rolling out the red carpet for him in a controversial move.
Now Liberal Democrats leader Sir Ed Davey has warned of his own "fears" about pandering to Putin, telling BBC Breakfast: "I think we all are digesting what happened overnight, but I fear Trump is still more interested in a deal with Vladimir Putin than he is in putting the interest of Ukraine first, and indeed of security for Europe.
"We have this idea of some sort of security guarantee with American involvement, it's a little bit vague, but I fear that what they're talking about with the land deal is a price we cannot allow Ukraine to pay. Ukraine won't want to pay it.
"I think if you appease an aggressor like Vladimir Putin, we know in history that that ends in a bad way. I just hope that the media here in the UK and internationally don't fall for any spin coming out of the Trump White House and really analyse what actually has been achieved or has not been achieved."
Davey was seemingly referring to the outbreak of World War 2 - sparking fresh WW3 fears with viewers at home. One tweeted in response: "More war for you then Ed?"
Someone else echoed: "WW3 incoming then." As a third viewer wrote: "They know they can't force Putin so they take land from Zelensky as he's the so-called weaker party... bullies getting their way."
