Following Cheryl's divorce from ex-husband Jean-Bernard Fernandez-Versini, the singers became a couple in 2016. In the following year, the duo welcomed their first child, Bear, who is now seven. But less than a year later, Liam and Cheryl announced they had parted ways, yet remained amicable and only spoke positively about each other for the sake of their son.

During an interview in 2018, Cheryl stated that the former One Direction singer was the only partner who hadn't cheated on her.

Referencing her previous relationships which include ex-husband Ashley Cole, Cheryl told The Sunday Times' Style magazine that Liam Payne "is the only man who has ever been faithful".

Cheryl Cole appeared nonchalant when speaking about her split with Liam, saying she had found the "man of her dreams" - their son Bear.

"I'm not looking for anything any more. I'm whole. I've got the man of my dreams," said Cheryl.

The singer became a father for the first time at 23 years old, publicly sharing about his struggle with fatherhood.

Speculation emerged following the couple's split, with many people thinking Liam had been unfaithful. However, they dismissed the rumours with Liam bravely admitting to finding becoming a young father challenging.

Speaking on the Ant Middleton and Liam Payne: Straight Talking documentary in 2019, he said becoming a dad at such a young age was a "difficult thing", and said he had begun to overthink his responsibilities.

"And I think I built fatherhood up so much in my head that it kind of messed me up to start with. I started in a bad place with it," he continued.

Liam added: "I think it spooked me out early on, and I was just worried I would not be enough to look after the both of them."

Following Bear's birth Girls Aloud Star Cheryl suffered a serious haemorrhage resulting in her taking a step back from the limelight to focus on her son. Despite calling her the best mum in the world, Liam admitted that he did not understand what Cheryl was going through.

Speaking to the Daily Mail in 2019, the Girls Aloud singer spoke about the success of co-parenting with Liam and that she couldn't be happier about the impact it was having on Bear.

"There's no animosity whatsoever. We are learning all the time. And it's good, it's healthy. We're just like any other couple that have gone through this, but we have a few more eyes watching us...just a few," said Cheryl.

At the time of reporting, Cheryl, 41, had not commented on the death of her ex-partner Liam Payne, 31.
