BBC Breakfast's Sally Nugent says 'I'll be having words with him' after 'cheeky' swipe

star Sally Nugent was quick to defend Carol Kirkwood after co-stars 'cheeky' swipe live on air.

During Wednesday's (October 16) episode of the BBC hit show, Sally was back on our TV screens alongside co-host Ben Thompson as they discussed the day's top stories.

Later in the show, the duo were joined by weather presenter Carol, 62, who was armed and ready with a meteorological update. Diving straight into the forecast, Carol warned viewers to 'watch out' for heavy rain and strong winds in the coming days.

She went on to tell viewers: "Looks like we will have strong winds for some but across the Northwest we could have severe gales so that is something to watch out for, particularly if you're travelling or maybe camping for example but the position of it may yet change so that's one we're looking at closely so just wanted to give you a heads up."

Sally was keen to find out more as she then asked: "Carol, that is really useful to know. It's Wednesday today, how long will we have to wait for Sunday's forecast to be firmer?"

Carol confirmed that it would be a few days as she replied: "Just a day or two, Sal. With each passing day it becomes firmer. So it really is one we're watching so tomorrow we're hoping to have a better idea on where it is going to go."

Things then turned awkward as Ben made a cheeky dig at the star. Speaking about the weather ahead, Ben turned to Carol and joked: "And if you stay there does it not come because it's hidden behind you?"

A baffled Carol pointed at her dress and asked: "What are you saying? You cheeky thing, Ben."

Everyone burst out laughing as Sally leaped to her defence and said: "I'll be having words with him." Ben added: "I'm in trouble."

It came as the show had yet another hosting shake-up as show regular Jon Kay was missing from screens for the second day in a row, with no explanation.

The beloved host has been notably absent from the programme, with a familiar face stepping in. Sally Nugent took on hosting duties alongside Ben Thompson as the duo delivered the latest headlines to the nation.

BBC Breakfast airs daily on BBC One at 6am
