Phulbani: The junior engineer (JE) in Odisha’s Kandhamal district, who was apprehended by the Vigilance while taking a bribe of Rs 10,000, was arrested on Monday.
Based on a complaint that Ashok Kumar Padhy, JE in Phiringia block of the district, was demanding bribe of Rs 10,000 from a contractor for clearing his final bill, Odisha Vigilance laid a trap.
The contractor went to give the demanded bribe to Padhy in his residential government quarters at Phiringia. The Vigilance nabbed the JE while accepting the money from the contractor.
The entire bribe money was recovered from the possession of Padhy and seized in presence of witnesses. Later, the Vigilance arrested him following investigation and forwarded him to court.
Following the trap, the Vigilance carried out simultaneous searches on the quarters of Padhy, his house at Berhampur in Ganjam district and his office room.
Berhampur Vigilance has registered a case in this connection under Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018 and further investigation is on.
