TRAVERSE CITY, Mich: Many supporters of Donald Trump left a Michigan rally on Friday evening after the former president made them wait for three hours while he recorded a podcast with Joe Rogan, the popular podcaster known for his appeal among younger voters.

Those who stayed huddled in the cold at an outdoor rally on an airport tarmac, eagerly awaiting Trump’s arrival in the battleground state. Upon his eventual arrival, Trump apologized for the delay, attributing it to the extended podcast session. The interview, which took place in Austin, Texas, lasted about three hours and covered various topics, including familiar stories and discussions on UFOs.

As Trump was set to speak, his spokesman posted on X that he had just departed Texas, over two hours away by air. Trump recorded a video from his plane, encouraging supporters to remain and promising a fun evening.

When he finally took the stage at Traverse City airport, where temperatures dipped to around 50 degrees Fahrenheit (10 degrees Celsius), the crowd cheered as video screens displayed his arrival. “I am so sorry,” he said, explaining that he had lost track of time but hoped the delay wouldn’t dampen their spirits.

Despite the chilly wait, some attendees remained optimistic. John Sowash, a local resident, noted, “Things happen,” while his wife, Cheryl, expressed concern that Trump had missed the chance to speak to a larger crowd.

During his interview with Rogan, Trump emphasized themes of masculinity, a focus of his 2024 campaign. He revealed his commitment to bringing Robert F. Kennedy Jr. into his administration, despite some policy disagreements. Trump also entertained the idea of eliminating federal income taxes, responding positively when Rogan asked if he was serious about it.

In the podcast, he reiterated grievances about the 2020 election, stating that if he wins, it will be his last campaign. He dismissed theories about extraterrestrial life and criticized federal subsidies aimed at boosting U.S. semiconductor manufacturing, a key achievement of President Joe Biden.

Trump described Taiwan as having “stolen our chip business” and praised Chinese President Xi Jinping as “a brilliant guy.” The conversation reflected Trump’s complex relationship with Rogan, who previously hesitated to host him but has since endorsed his candidacy.

At his Michigan rally, Trump also took aim at Vice President Kamala Harris, mocking her event with superstar Beyoncé in Houston. He continued to amplify his tough stance on illegal immigration, suggesting the U.S. has become a dumping ground for undesirable individuals. Harris countered that Trump’s remarks belittle the American people, emphasizing the need for a leader who uplifts the nation.

As the rally progressed, Trump indicated he would not shy away from discussing his role as a protector of women, despite campaign advisors suggesting he refrain from it. “I mean, that’s our job,” he asserted.

The rally faced interruptions due to medical emergencies among audience members, prompting Trump to fill the time with music, reminiscent of previous rallies where health issues arose in the crowd.
