You must have seen beautiful paintings of gods and goddesses in many palaces of India, which are still enhancing the beauty of those palaces. Sometimes some paintings are in bad condition, while others are in good condition. But have you ever wondered who must have made these amazing paintings? Most people think that these must be the work of an Indian artist, but when you come to know that these have been made by a foreign artist, you might be surprised.

Who made the paintings of gods and goddesses?  These paintings were made by Polish artist Stefan Norblin. In fact, when Germany attacked Poland in 1939, Stefan Norblin and his film star wife had to flee their country. He wanted to go to America but reached India via Romania, Turkey, and Iraq and stayed here for six years. While living in India, he came in contact with Indian kings and got the work of decorating palaces with paintings.

Depictions of the Mahabharata and the Ramayana: Between 1941 and 1946, Stephen Norblin painted several Indian palaces. He created images of Hindu gods and goddesses, scenes from the Mahabharata and the Ramayana, tigers, leopards, and elephants. Even today, his paintings can be seen in the famous Umaid Bhawan palace in Rajasthan and the palace in Morbi, Gujarat. The Umaid Bhawan, formerly the home of the ruler of Jodhpur, is now used as a luxury hotel.
