Pilgrims heading for the Char Dham Yatra in 2025 have reason to cheer. With the monsoon subsiding and weather conditions improving, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has given clearance to resume helicopter services for the pilgrimage.
A review meeting led by Civil Aviation Minister Kinjarapu Ramamohan Naidu emphasized stricter safety measures and better coordination. The minister also held multiple rounds of discussions with Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami in Dehradun and Delhi to ensure smooth operations between the DGCA, Airports Authority of India, the state government, and the Uttarakhand Civil Aviation Development Authority.
DGCA to Keep Strict WatchBetween September 13 and 16, DGCA teams carried out a detailed inspection of all helipads, helicopters, and operators in the region. After reviewing preparedness, approval was granted for operations. All helicopter operators and pilots were also briefed on high-altitude challenges and additional safety protocols.
The ministry highlighted that helicopter services are crucial to facilitate the movement of pilgrims at difficult-to-reach Char Dham sites. With multiple crashes reported in May–June this year, several expert committees had recommended safety upgrades, many of which are now being enforced. The DGCA will maintain close supervision to ensure safe and uninterrupted services.
