Leicester boss dropped Harry Winks from his squad this week as the pair continue to clash over the midfielder's ongoing 100-mile commute. The former man travelled up from his Hertfordshire home under the previous manager, but Van Nistelrooy looks to have had enough.
The duo were involved in a confrontation during the international break after the Foxes boss saw Winks refuse to stay overnight at the club's training ground once a week. The Dutchman is desperate to bring in a sense of discipline at the side, but his plea for Winks to stay overnight at the training base was shunned.
It is understood that the former England man is one of three senior players to travel more than 90 miles a day to the Seagrave complex in north Leicestershire. Winks is understood to have his own private reasons for undertaking the long drive and refusing to base himself near the club.
Enzo Maresca previously had no issue with Winks doing the long drive, but the current manager does and that is now costing the player, reports . The Foxes boss wanted Winks to stay overnight to aid preparation before the clash on Wednesday with the squad training in the afternoon before a session the following morning.
It remains to be seen whether the 29-year-old will be available for Monday night’s game against , but sources have claimed the row with Van Nistelrooy was heated.

’s £100million training ground is regarded as one of the best in the country, with outstanding facilities that includes hotel accommodation. It is occasionally used by players but the conduct of some individuals continues to be a talking point, particularly with Leicester poised for relegation.
Defender Jannik Vestergaard recently brought his dog to the training ground. He was reportedly given permission to bring in his pet as a one-off because his family in London were away and there was no one to care for it. The ex-Southampton man is another player who commutes to Leicester.
Van Nistelrooy has been unable to help Leicester's top-flight cause and has overseen 14 defeats in the last 15 league matches. They lost 2-0 at City which left them second-bottom and 12 points adrift of safety with games running out. The ex-United frontman hasn't hidden his determination to set high standards at the club with his changes clearly rattling some players.
He said: “One of the first things I looked at when I arrived was to see how things are done here, and then apply my standards in this environment. In general, I’ve tried to increase the standards over the past three months. You have to take full advantage of these facilities.
"That is where the standards come in. It’s a perfect place to increase the standards as high as I feel is possible to run a club that wants to be in the Premier League."
