The film remains firmly in pop culture being spoofed and adverts - most recently being parodied in a video promoting driver Lewis Hamilton's switch to Ferrari. But decades later, what happened to the faces that brought those unforgettable moments alive?

Some stayed in the limelight, going on to star in big budget films and TV, while others have stepped away from the limelight. And one lives on a farm in Suffolk.

Matthew Broderick - Ferris Bueller

It would only be fair to start the list off with the delightfully charming Ferris, played by . The actor had already picked up some credits before the 1986 hit, but it was his depiction of the loveable slacker that really launched his career into the stratosphere.

He landed gigs in some of the biggest films of the next few years including playing Simba in The Lion King, a part in Godzilla, Election and the lead in Inspector Gadget. He also won widespread acclaim for his Broadway performance in Mel Brooks' stage adaptation of The Producers.

He has continued to appear in a whole host of big-name movies, but away from the silver screen, Broderick . The couple have been married since 1997 after having met on the New York theatre scene in the early 90s.

Alan Ruck - Cameron Frye

Alan Ruck perfectly brought Cameron Frye to life, capturing his nervousness and anxiousness throughout the film while fashioning the iconic Detroit Red Wings shirt. His performance is so good some fans have even speculated the whole film , with Ferris appearing as a representation of who he would really like to be.

Since Ferris Bueller, Alan also landed some big films in the 1990s. He starred in Three Fugitives, Young Guns II, Speed Star Trek: Generations and Twister before shifting to some roles on TV.

The actor jumped to new heights in recent years, gaining a whole new fan base for his role in the multi-award-winning HBO show Succession. Alan appeared as Connor Roy, the eldest and more-than-slightly dysfunctional son of business tycoon Logan Roy played by Brian Cox.

Mia Sara - Sloane Peterson

Mia Sara was just 18 when she became one of the most recognisable faces in cinema as Ferris' effortlessly composed and stylish girlfriend Sloane. Despite the movie’s success and her newfound celebrity status, Mia remembers the experience with mixed emotions.

“Of the main cast, I was the only actual adolescent,” After making steady appearances in films until the early 2010s the actress now enjoys a low public profile focusing on her family and writing on a rural farm in Suffolk.

She married Brian Henson, son of The Muppets creator Jim Henson, in 2010. The couple have a daughter, Amelia, now 19. Sara also has a son, Dashiell, 27, from her previous marriage to actor Jason Connery, son of the late Sir Sean Connery. Dashiell has dabbled in acting but largely avoids the spotlight.

Jeffrey Jones - Ed Rooney

Jones plays the iconic role of Bueller's head teacher Ed Rooney, whose attempts to catch Ferris in the act bring him close to insanity. Jones continued to pick up acting credits throughout the 80s and 90s - but his career changed after he was arrested in 2002.

The following year, he pleaded no contest to charges of possession of child pornography. Jones was sentenced to five years probation, and counselling and informed that he must register himself as a sex offender for the remainder of his life.

At the time, the actor reportedly said: "This concludes a really painful chapter in my life. I am sorry that this incident was allowed to occur. Such an event has never happened before and it will never happen again."

In 2004 and 2010, he was arrested for failing to update his status as a sex offender. He pleaded guilty and received a further 250 hours of community service as well as extra years of probation.

Jennifer Grey - Jeanie Bueller

Jennifer played Ferris' sister Jeanie, who is constantly fed-up with her brother's antics and baffled with how he also seems to get away with it. She occupied one of the film's sub-plots, even ending up in a with.

After the film she lande and continued picking up credits throughout the 2000's. She notably also took home the win in the 11th season of Dancing with the Stars (the US).

Despite playing siblings, Jennifer and Matthew began a secret relationship during the film's production, and become engaged in 1988, but broke up soon after. More recently months she made an appearance in Jesse Eisenberg's Oscar winning film A Real Pain, in which she stars alongside Ruck's Succession co-star Kieran Culkin.
