Chelsea have been warned that Cole Palmer will "only tolerate mediocrity for so long" as the Blues face the prospect of missing out on the . Back in December, the west Londoners were tipped as title contenders, but have since fallen away.
Palmer was the team's leading light in his debut season and was again leading their attack in the opening months of the season. His drop off has mirrored that of his team but the playmaker remains one of the Premier League's most highly thought of players.
The ex-Manchester City man left the Etihad to further his career, but has pointed out that his lack of Champions League exposure is not sufficient for a player of his quality.
He has likened Palmer's situation to Steven Gerrard's when he was at in the mid 2000s. The man has cut a frustrated figure in recent months with Carragher claiming Palmer may be asking whether Chelsea is the right place for him to fulfil his ambitions.

"It reminded me of during the more difficult periods at Liverpool, where he was looking around the pitch and realising team-mates were not at the required level. Gerrard started to ask himself if he was at the right club, prompting Chelsea to try to sign him in three successive summers between 2003-2005.
"On two occasions they were very close to doing the deal. How and why? Not because Liverpool were willing sellers. Not because Liverpool were under any financial pressure to offload any of their assets. Not because our captain and best player had a boyhood dream to move to London. And not because the club were unwilling to fight to keep their superstar.
"The reason the transfer nearly happened was because world-class players can only tolerate mediocrity for so long. Careers are short, and those with ambition who feel their talent is unfulfilled cannot stand waiting."
Palmer has shown no desire to leave Chelsea but the Blues have not claimed any honours during his time at the club. They're hot favourites to win the Europa Conference League but the playmaker will have far greater ambitions. Chelsea have the player tied down for the next eight years.
