A coin expert has told Brits to look out for a rare penny worth £500. This piece is onlyparticularly valuableif it has a distinct mark.
In a video uploaded to social media platform TikTok, an expert known as the Coin Collecting Wizard revealed more about a penny coin from 1902. On its obverse (head) side it will depict King Edward VII.
While on its reverse (tail) side it features an image of Britannia holding a trident. It is this side that you will need topay close attention to.

The expert said: “Yes, just another old penny worth 500 quid. We have the 1902 low tide penny.”
The coin is particularly sought after if the sea line appears low on Britannia’s leg. He continued: “The low tide penny is a certain variety of the 1902, where the sea line is lower than the usual pennies.”
It is quite difficult to spot the difference, so he displayed examples of the two types of coin. “As you can see from the examples, the low tide is slightly lower on Britannia's leg,” he continued.
“The left coin is an example of the high tide type. The right one depicts a coin of the low tide type.
“It is quite a difficult one to spot, but when you do, you will be a master at it. Low tide coins are worth considerably more than their high tide counterparts.”
He added: “And if you're lucky enough to find a 1902 low tide penny, then you're looking at around £500 in uncirculated condition. So check your pennies now for this rare beast, but remember that it must be the certain variety of the 1902 mentioned as a regular 1902 doesn't hold a £500 value.
“Let me know now if you have any of these old British pennies, as it really does depend on the date and condition with these coins.”
