Bob Dylan fans 'in tears' at Liverpool performance - but all have same complaint

Send Push

Bob Dylan's latest tour kicked off earlier this month and left many of last night's Liverpool crowd "in tears".

But some had complaints over the lack of visibility of the 83-year-old frontman, whose Rough and Rowdy Ways performance at the Bank Arena split the room. Some were staggered to hear the songwriter who delivered classics like All Along the Watchtower and Desolation Row but others were furious and felt the gig fell well short of expectation.

Those who did enjoy the gig say it "blew my mind" and that they weren't expecting the show to be so good. But those latter people who found little to like about made it known, much to the annoyance of those there to listen.

One choked-up user who attended the gig wrote: "Bob Dylan in Liverpool was amazing and beautiful. Why am I in my hotel room crying about seeing an 83-year-old play a harmonica. God damn." Another replied oozing the same enthusiasm, adding: "I welled up at a few points in it, genuinely unbelievable vocals from a man his age."

A third added: "I was there too, harmonica playing blew my mind, wasn’t expecting it." But those delighted by seeing the legendary performer had their evenings somewhat ruined by those who were less than enthralled.

"A lot of sublime moments were wrecked for me," one wrote. "The people around were restless, talking and milling about for food and beer. Roll on a smaller more cohesive audience in Wolverhampton." Others were unimpressed by the lighting at the venue, saying the four bulbs used were not enough.

One user writing to Bob Dylan on /X revealed: "Why no lighting at Liverpool?? Most disappointing gig in more than 50 years. Came to see the legendary Bob Dylan but never saw him!" But another user replied: "Didn't you go to hear them?" Another asked: "It was so dark! I thought they’d put a spotlight in him or something. Couldn’t bloody see him!"

While some enjoyed the musical experience the phone lock controversy continues, with Yondr pouches used by the venue to prevent people using their phones at the gig. But some still figured out a way to smuggle their phones in. One user wrote: "The Bob Dylan gig in Liverpool tonight was a experience. Didn’t mind having my phone locked away but the stage lighting was so dark you could barely make anyone out. Music was good though so guess that’s the main thing."

But after praising the gig they revealed a man in front of them spent the whole gig "scrolling during the concert". One horrified fan replied: "Unbelievable, you’d wonder why people spend good money to go to a concert and look at Facebook or get so wasted they don’t remember the gig the next day."
