AM to PM: Gentle skincare routine for dry-skin girls

Send Push
Summers are a call for sunlit-harsh afternoons, sweat, and oily skin. While many deal with unwanted sweat and shine, those with dry skin face their own set of challenges. Dry skin gets extra tight and flaky in the summer because of transepidermal water loss, where the moisture bids goodbye, leaving your skin thin and in the air. Therefore, following this simple summer skincare regimen for dry skin is critical, wherein one needs to retain moisture and hydration while protecting your skin from sun-induced damage.

A morning skincare routine

Step 1: Gentle hydrating cleanser

Start your morning routine with a gentle hydrating cleanser that will deep cleanse the pores and eliminate dirt, oil, and other impurities. If you’re struggling with dry skin, use a gentle facial cleanser to remove oil, grime, and pollutants.

Step 2: Hydrate your skin with a toner

This is an underrated step but is very important for dry-skinned girls, as the toner helps to balance the pH level of your skin and removes any dirt and residue. You can use it anytime during the summer season to hydrate and refresh your skin.

Step 3: Apply a vitamin C serum

Layer your skin with the right products, and including a vitamin C serum is one of them. Vitamin C prevents sun damage, reduces the appearance of early signs of ageing, and works greatly on dark spot pigmentation.

Step 4: Apply a moisturiser

During summers, we wish to throw our moisturisers back on the shelf to get out of the extra grease, which sweats like buckets. But try gel moisturisers that have lime and mint-infused hydration with a lightweight and fast-absorbing property, i.e., packed with emollients and humectants.

Step 5: Finish off with a sunscreen

This is a non-negotiable step, as sunscreen protects your skin against harmful UV rays and also shields you from premature ageing and radical damage. It keeps away pigmentation and dark spots, making your skin healthy and nourished. Opt for a sunscreen with a lightweight formula that also hydrates your skin.

Evening skincare routine

Step 1: Oil-based cleanser

After heading back from the office, start your evening skincare with an oil-based cleanser to break down the sunscreen, makeup, and excess oil. Make sure to cleanse your skin thoroughly without removing its natural moisture.

Step 2: Exfoliation is a must

Exfoliation during the summer helps remove dead skin cells and makes your skin look smoother and brighter. Use a mild AHA/BHA exfoliant and gently scrub your face to avoid irritation. Follow this step only three times a week.

Step 3: Use a hydrating toner

Toner replenishes moisture and preps your skin for the next steps. Thus, choose a toner rich in glycerin or hyaluronic acid, which can refresh and soothe your skin. Opt for cotton pads instead of hands for better absorption.

Step 4: Niacinamide serum

Include a serum in your night routine as well, which can boost hydration and improve overall texture. Niacinamide is a popular pick for brightening, whereas peptides support the skin's elasticity and give you a natural morning glow.

Step 5: Moisturiser or sleeping mask

Apply a thin layer of moisturiser or an overnight sleeping mask that hydrates your skin while you’re sleeping. Look for shea butter and ceramides to keep skin soft and prevent moisture loss.

Step 6: Lip balm

Please keep in mind your lips and remember that they need hydration as well. Therefore, opt for a thick balm that will prevent your lips from chapping and opt for ingredients like shea butter, lanolin, and honey for deep nourishment.
