Pakistani star Fawad Khan is making a much-anticipated return to Hindi films with " Abir Gulaal," a romantic comedy where he will be seen opposite Bollywood actress Vaani Kapoor. This project marks Fawad's comeback to Indian cinema after an eight-year hiatus. Fawad, known for his roles in popular Pakistani dramas like "Zindagi Gulzar Hai" and "Humsafar," as well as Bollywood films "Khoobsurat" and "Kapoor & Sons," last appeared in Indian cinemas in Karan Johar’s 2016 film "Ae Dil Hai Mushkil." His return has sparked excitement among fans, both in India and globally.

"Abir Gulaal," billed as an international production, began shooting in London on September 29, 2024. The film is being produced by Indian Stories, along with A Richer Lens and Aarjay Pictures. It boasts a support cast from both India and the UK. Directed by Aarti S Bagdi, known for her work on "Chalti Rahe Zindagi," the film promises to be a heartwarming romantic comedy with a message of healing and love. The producers, Vivek B Agrawal, Avantika Hari, and Rakesh Sippy, have released the first-look images of Fawad Khan and Vaani Kapoor from the film, further building anticipation for the movie’s release.

Abir Gulaal plot
The film's storyline, according to director Bagdi, explores the journey of two individuals who unintentionally help each other heal, with love blossoming as an unexpected result. Set against the scenic backdrop of London, "Abir Gulaal" will be filmed throughout October and November, capturing the essence of romance and personal growth.

This musical element adds to the excitement surrounding the film, promising a delightful blend of emotion, romance, and entertainment.

Fawad Khan's return to Bollywood comes at a time when his career has been gaining momentum in Pakistan. He recently starred in the blockbuster "The Legend of Maula Jatt," which, despite facing release issues in Punjab, Pakistan, has been a massive success. The film also stars Mahira Khan and was directed by Bilal Lashari. Fawad's re-entry into Hindi cinema with "Abir Gulaal" is seen as a welcome development for his Indian fans, who have been waiting to see him on the big screen again.

However, Fawad’s previous stint in Bollywood wasn’t without challenges. In 2016, during the release of "Ae Dil Hai Mushkil," the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) opposed the film, demanding a ban on Pakistani actors in Indian cinema following a terrorist attack in Jammu and Kashmir.

Despite these political tensions, the Supreme Court of India dismissed a plea in 2022 that sought a complete ban on Pakistani artists performing in India, creating a window of opportunity for cross-border collaborations.

For his fans, the news of Fawad Khan’s comeback to Bollywood is exciting. His charming presence and acting skills have left a lasting impression on Indian audiences. "Abir Gulaal" is set to further cement his reputation as a versatile actor capable of delivering memorable performances.

Meanwhile, Vaani Kapoor, who last appeared in "Khel Khel Mein" alongside Akshay Kumar, is also generating buzz with her pairing opposite Fawad Khan. Her previous projects may have received mixed responses, but her chemistry with Fawad in "Abir Gulaal" is expected to create magic on screen. (With Agency Inputs)
