Madurai (Tamil Nadu) [India], October 12 (ANI): BJP leader K Annamalai has criticised the Tamil Nadu government for its handling of a case involving a private pharmaceutical company in Kanchipuram, allegedly linked to the deaths of 23 people in Madhya Pradesh and three children in Rajasthan.
Annamalai highlighted that the state government suspended only two drug inspectors after the Special Investigation Team (SIT) intervened, accusing the TN government of creating an "illusion" and evading responsibility.
"A drug manufactured by a private pharmaceutical company in Kanchipuram has reportedly caused the deaths of 23 people in Madhya Pradesh and three children in Rajasthan. However, the Tamil Nadu government has suspended only two drug inspectors and is trying to create an illusion that it has no connection or responsibility in this matter. Yesterday, the Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI) took an important decision. This time, the agency has decided that every medicine produced in India must undergo mandatory testing before approval," he said.
He also noted the company's history of quality violations and the lack of inspections by Tamil Nadu drug inspectors.
The Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI) has now mandated testing for all medicines produced in India before approval.
"The private pharmaceutical company in Kanchipuram has previously been involved in several quality violations. So far, no drug inspector from Tamil Nadu has conducted any inspection there. It was only after the SIT arrived in Tamil Nadu for investigation that the government suspended two officials. Considering all this, the Tamil Nadu government must take full responsibility, and the Chief Minister should address this issue publicly," the BJP leader added.
On October 10, a Parasia court sent Sresan Pharma owner S Ranganathan to 10-day police custody in connection with the deaths of children allegedly caused by the consumption of Coldrif cough syrup. (ANI)
