IPL 2025: Shreyas Iyer's Eden Gardens return ruined by rain

This game was the return of former captain Shreyas Iyer to Eden Gardens with his current team Punjab Kings (PBKS) took on Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in Match 44 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. Winning the toss and opting to bat first, PBKS posted a good total of 201 runs for the fall of 4 wickets in 20 overs.

However, their good run was ruined as rain started to pour during KKR's chase after they got 7 runs in 1 over. Unfortunately, the KKR vs PBKS match was abandoned due to rain. Both teams will split the points today, and it could prove crucial for PBKS as they push for a playoff spot.

Rain plays spoilsport

PBKS made a strong start with the bat, as Priyansh Arya (69 off 35) and Prabhsimran Singh (83 off 49) stitched together a 120-run opening stand. The young left-hander led the charge with some stunning shots, while Prabhsimran accelerated after Priyansh's dismissal.

Captain Shreyas Iyer also played a cameo of 25* off 16 while watching Glenn Maxwell (7 off 8), who came in at No. 4, fail to make much of an impact. Marco Jansen departed for 3 off 7, and Josh Inglis stayed till the end, scoring 11 off 6. 

Vaibhav Arora, who picked up two wickets, along with Varun Chakaravarthy and Andre Russell, who took two each, bowled tightly at the death and prevented PBKS from posting an even bigger total.

One fan commented, "The match couldn't be played today due to rain. When the BCCI schedules IPL matches, if there is a 40% to 60% chance of rain in that area, they should arrange for the match to be completed the next afternoon so that important matches can still happen."
